Every image deserves a description

Alt text is the short, written description of an image. It’s how millions of people who use screen readers experience photos — and most images posted online still don’t have any.

  • It makes your photos accessible. People who are blind or have low vision rely on alt text to know what an image shows.
  • It’s expected on social media. Platforms like Mastodon and Bluesky surface alt text — and communities increasingly expect every image to have it.
  • It helps everyone. Alt text makes images searchable and keeps your meaning intact when images don’t load.
  • Writing it is the hard part. TigerText does that part for you, in seconds.

Describe once. It travels everywhere.

TigerText embeds each description directly into your photo as standard image metadata. When you share that photo, the alt text comes along automatically — no copy-paste, no retyping.

What TigerText does

Powerful on-device AI, designed to be effortless and accessible.

Private by design

Descriptions are generated entirely on your iPhone. Your photos never leave your device — no accounts, no ads, no tracking.

Accurate AI descriptions

On-device vision AI recognizes people, pets, scenes, and text, and writes clear, useful alt text in seconds.

Read aloud & edit

Hear any description spoken back, then fine-tune it by typing or dictating. You’re always in control of the final words.

See your whole library

Browse your photos with badges showing which already have alt text, so you can make your entire library accessible.

Share in a tap

Send a captioned photo straight to any app from the share sheet — the embedded alt text travels with it.

How it works

Four simple steps, all on your iPhone.

  1. Pick your photos

Choose one photo or a whole batch from your library. TigerText shows which ones already have alt text.

  2. AI writes a description

On-device vision AI looks at each photo and writes clear, accurate alt text in seconds — no internet required.

  3. Read aloud, edit, or dictate

Hear the description spoken back, then tweak the wording by typing or dictating until it’s exactly right.

  4. Save & share — it travels

The description is embedded into the photo’s metadata. Share it anywhere and the alt text comes along automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really private?

Yes. Descriptions are generated entirely on your iPhone. Your photos never leave your device, there are no accounts, and TigerText collects no data and shows no ads. The only time it touches the network is to download an Apple translation language pack the first time one is needed — your photos and text are never uploaded.

Which apps read the embedded alt text?

TigerText embeds descriptions as standard IPTC and EXIF image metadata. Platforms that read this metadata — including Mastodon and Bluesky — will pick up your alt text automatically. Support is growing as more apps adopt the standard.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The AI runs fully on-device, so you can describe photos with no connection at all (apart from the one-time translation language-pack download).

Are there subscriptions or ads?

No subscriptions, no ads, and no tracking. TigerText is built around accessibility, not data monetization.

Which devices are supported?

TigerText runs on iPhone with iOS 18.2 or later.

Can I edit the description it writes?

Absolutely. Every description can be read aloud and fully edited by typing or dictation before you save it — you’re always in control of the final words.
